I am Jelimana follows Jeqe, a young man in 1960s Zimbabwe, forced to leave his village for the city as the war of liberation intensifies with his favourite book, a head full of dreams and a heart bursting with songs. His sister, Lili, the village spiritual medium, abandons her calling to join the armed struggle, plunging their world into chaos. Jeqe must embrace his destiny as Jelimana. The drum beat of war resounds as he goes on a journey of self discovery. The performer/ narrator sits at the heart of the story sharing his own journey.
